Why is archery popular in the US today?

The reason why archery is popular in the US today is most likely the influence of The Hunger Games.  Many children, mainly girls, were attracted to archery, since Katniss, who is the main character in The Hunger Games, uses the bow and arrow in the movie.  She is so strong and so independent that many girls try to imitate her.  One of other factors is that the archery is an independent sport.  At the independent sports, player can practice almost by him or herself at their own pace.  In addition, archery can be played indoors.  The archery is the one sport that running hard or tackle someone is not required.  People who don’t like to play sports or don’t like to play as a team also can begin the archery easily.  Finally, children make their parents accompany to purchase archery.  It’s one big opportunity that not only archery popularity is growing by those adults but also parents and children, especially dads and daughters, can be connected.  As a result, the archery is the popular sport in the today’s US.

opinion paragraph

Opinion Paragraph for The Hunger Games
The movie of The Hunger Games is interesting entertainment, and it has strong messages to present society and people.  However, the movie is not as dark as the novel.  I was not surprised by the story of the movie, because this movie was made as based on the novel almost completely.  The movie has impressive images that Novel can’t express.  On the other hand, the novel has the strong messages that can be told obviously more than the movie.  Characters casting was good.  Every actor and actress performed very well.  Katniss’ strength and Peeta’s kindness were expressed faithfully.  In addition, it’s interesting to see each character, because we can only imagine the characters appearances in the novel.  The new characters added flavor to the movie.  In the novel, about Game makers were not mentioned very much.  However, the movie focused on the Captol people more than tribute’s family.  It makes the image of Capitol more understandable.  Some characters were also different from the novel such as Haymitch to make movie more entertaining.  To summarize, reading the book and watching the movie will help each other to promote a mutual understanding and make each work more interesting.

Spring break

On the first day, I departed at 10 o’clock.  Until 10 o’clock, I played catch with my friend to hang out and after that, my friends and I joined others and spent a fun time together.  My friend who lives in southern Portland picked me up at night.  I was staying out my friend’s house in spring break.  I went to Portland by bus.  I checked some shops but, finally I didn’t purchase any stuffs.  When I went back to my friend’s house, I mistook transferring bus and I reached wrong place.  Unfortunately, my cell phone ran out of battery.  I asked the clerk in Subway where is the closest public phone.  I left Subway to find public phone, then a policeman spoke to me.  I thought he was worried that one such an Asian boy was wandering.  He tried to contact with my friend’s family.  I was waiting for my friend.  When 10 minutes passed, my friend arrived at the place where I reached.  However, I intend to go again and get good stuff next time.

Pow wow

I joined Native American’s festival called Pow Wow and I was so impressed.  This festival was held at Sparks.  Many Native Americans and other participants were dancing the Native traditional dances.  The first one hour, I watched and observed their dances.  In the dance, people had on traditional clothes that look like eagle’s feather or eagle’s fantail.  These clothes were colorful, but these colors were natural.  Their dance was as if they beat the ground.  However, there were differences in how each person danced.  Some people were dancing while putting their hands on their waists.  Some bent their waists and moved their necks, turned faces in different direction regularly.     Anyway, their dance was full of passion.  In addition, everybody was able to participate in the dances.   Non-Native people or very young children also danced, so that it was really interesting.  After I watched the dances, I walked around the dance place to find out other interesting things.  The Native people sold accessories or smoked salmon.  I questioned them about the traditional dances and their clothes.  They call the traditional clothes “Regalia”.  There are many types of dances.  Grass Dance, Hope Dance, Eagle Dance, Double Bussell Dance, were performed by men.  Women danced the Jingle Dance, Shuffle Dance.  Both genders competed in the Traditional Dance and Fancy Dance.  I was impressed by their hair styles, because most Native people’s hair was braided, men as well.  Finally, I took picture of them after asking.  They allowed me to do that willingly.  To conclude, their culture is remarkable.  I want to know more deeply about them, their lives and their history.
